What Makes Oven-Baked Pulled Pork Sliders So Good?

No one can say no to BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders. These two-bite beauties are American classics that are perfect to snack on when watching the game or for a casual get-together.

This recipe makes enough to feed a crowd, so invite everyone over for a good time.

Why You Should Try This Pulled Pork Sliders Recipe?

If you love pulled pork but don't have a smoker, you can't do better than this recipe. The fall-apart tenderness of the pork combined with the sweet and spicy flavor of the spice blend takes these sliders over the top.

Besides the great taste, the flexibility to use this pork not only for sliders but as a filling for burritos and tacos gives you a lot of meal options.

    Ingredients You Will Need

For the spice blend, you'll need:

    • Light brown sugar
    • Salt
    • Ground black pepper
    • Minced dry onion
    • Smoked paprika
    • Chili powder

To cook the pork, you'll need:

    • Pork shoulder roast
    • Apple cider vinegar

To assemble Pulled Pork Sliders, you'll need:

    • Cooked pork shoulder
    • Barbeque sauce (optional)
    • Toppings (optional)
    • Slider buns

Making pulled pork sliders on Hawaiian rolls adds an additional sweetness that helps balance out the spices.

How to Make Pulled Pork Sliders

    To prepare the spice blend:

    1. In a small bowl, whisk together the light brown sugar, salt, ground black pepper, minced dry onions, smoked paprika, and chili powder.
seasonings for pulled pork in a bowl.

    To cook the pork:

    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
    2. Liberally rub the spice blend into the pork shoulder roast.

    1. Put the pork shoulder in a dutch oven and add the apple vinegar around it. Avoid pouring the apple vinegar over the top of the meat, or you'll wash off the seasoning.
    2. Place the lid on the dutch oven and bake for 3 to 4 hours or until the pork's internal temperature reaches 145°F and is fork-tender.
    3. Before the pork cools, shred the meat using two forks with the tines held downwards or meat claws.

    To assemble the sliders:

    1. Toast the slider rolls if you want more structure to your sandwiches, but it is an entirely optional step.
    2. If you plan to sauce the pulled pork, put a quarter cup of shredded meat and two tablespoons of your favorite BBQ sauce per serving in a mixing bowl. Stir well.
    3. Spoon a quarter-cup of the meat onto the bottom slider roll. Add any toppings you want and cover with the top roll.

    Special Equipment You Might Need

There is no must-have special equipment for this recipe, but two nice-to-have kitchen tools are meat claws and heat-resistant gloves. The meat claws make short work of shredding the pork, and the gloves protect your hand while handling the hot meat.

What to Serve With These Pork Sliders

The overwhelming flavor profile for this dish is sweet with just a touch of heat, so good side choices will add extra acidity or saltiness to the mix. Here are a few suggestions:

    • Potato chips are a classic salty side with a lot of crunch that contrasts nicely with the soft sliders.
    • Cucumber and Oninion Salad dressed in a vinegarette is bright and fresh. It pairs perfectly with BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders.
    • A scoop of elote, known as Mexican-style street corn, is creamy and cheesy and would taste fantastic with these sliders.

Try These Pulled Pork Sliders Toppings

Feel free to get a little crazy when it comes to dressing up your sliders with toppings. Here are three suggestions:

    • Don't limit the slaw for pork sliders to just a side dish when you can add it directly to the slider itself. An extra creamy coleslaw as a topping is particularly good if you choose not to sauce your pulled pork.
    • Pickles bring a lot of acidity to these sliders. Traditionalists may stick with dill pickle slices but think outside the box by using pickles made from carrots, radish slices, onions, or jalapeno peppers.
    • If you are not afraid of a bit of fusion cooking, try topping your pulled pork with some chopped kimchi. Korean kimchi is pungent but has a complex flavor that would go wonderfully with unsauced pulled pork.

How to Store Leftover Pulled Pork

Once the pulled pork cools to room temperature, place it in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to three days. You can freeze the pulled pork in freezer bags for up to two months.

What's the Best Way to Reheat Pulled Pork

The best way to reheat the pork is in the oven:

    1. Preheat the oven to 225°F.
    2. Place the shredded meat in a baking tray along with several tablespoons of your choice of liquid. Water, apple juice, and BBQ sauce are all good options.
    3. Cover the top of the baking dish with aluminum foil.
    4. Heat in the oven until the meat is warm, about 10 to 15 minutes.
